We continue to grow our team and are now looking for an ambitious Junior Accountant to provide support to our Mid-Atlantic division accounting team, specifically with a focus in supporting accounting activities for our fabrication shop located in Laurel, MD.  The Junior Accountant will be responsible for shop related accounting and coordination activities, including but not limited to, preparing and processing shop employee timesheets, assisting with the setup and billings related to the tool management system, assisting with shop related overhead purchases, processing shop related invoices including purchase order workflow coordination and invoice allocations, assisting with sheet metal inventory tracking, and preparing various weekly and monthly reports. A successful candidate is available to start work early in the AM and flex as needed to support our shop operations.  While this position is part of a bigger team, the right candidate is able to work independently and has the confidence to ensure accounting policies and deadlines can be managed and administered on their own, as they will be working in the location as the only full-time accountant on site. The position will report to the Senior Division Accountant.



What you’ll do:



  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll
  • Establish and maintain accurate and appropriate records to ensure data integrity and accuracy
  • Research and resolve straightforward accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner. Elevate more complex issues for resolution
  • Follow appropriate policies and procedures to assure that Southland maintains compliance with all state and federal laws as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely, professional manner
  • May be involved in other division accounting projects and duties as role evolves



What you’ll need to be successful:



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Able to analyze and resolve basic issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. required 
  • Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
  • Works under direct supervision
  • Makes decisions within defined guidelines



What you bring to the table:



  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience required
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience required
  • Construction accounting experiences is a plus
  • 1+ years of experience in accounts payable and processing/reviewing timesheets and experience processing union payroll is a plus
  • Basic accounting knowledge
  • Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
